إن المحبَطين يتبعون الزعيم لا لإيمانهم بأنه يقودهم إلى أرض الميعاد بقدر شعورهم الفوري بأنه يبعدهم عن ذواتهم التي يكرهونها. فالاستسلام للزعيم ليس وسيلةً إلى غاية، بل هو غايةٌ بذاته. أما إلى أين يُقادون، فذلك أمرٌ ثانوي.
