لكنّ هذا مشروطٌ بأن يصير الرجلُ أمريكيًا في الحقيقة، لا شيءَ سوى أمريكيّ. فإن حاول أن يعيش منعزلًا مع أبناء أصله، منفصلًا عن بقية أمريكا، فإنه لا يؤدّي دوره كأمريكيّ. لا يتّسع المقامُ هنا لولاءٍ منقسم. إنّ لدينا متّسعًا للغةٍ واحدة فقط، هي الإنجليزية، إذ نعتزم أن يصهر البوتقةُ شعبنا فيخرج أمريكيّين من القومية الأمريكية، لا سكّانًا في نُزُلٍ متعدد الألسن؛ ولدينا متّسعٌ لولاءٍ واحد للروح، هو الولاء للشعب الأمريكي.
