الطبيعة تفضّل الحالات الأرجح على الأقل احتمالاً، لأن العمليات الطبيعية تجري في اتجاه الاحتمال الأكبر. فالحرارة تنتقل من جسم أعلى حرارةً إلى جسم أدنى حرارةً، لأن حالة توزّع الحرارة المتساوي أرجح من حالة توزّعها غير المتساوي.
