الأنانية تُقيم مركزها في ذاتها، والحبُّ يَنقله خارج ذاته إلى محور الكلّ الشامل. الحبُّ يسعى إلى الوحدة، والأنانية إلى الوحشة. الحبُّ حاكمٌ مواطنٌ في جمهورية مزدهرة، والأنانية مستبدٌّ في خلقٍ خراب. الأنانية تزرع انتظارًا للشكر، والحبُّ يزرع للجاحد. الحبُّ يُعطي، والأنانية تُقرض؛ والحبُّ يفعل ذلك أمام عرش الحقيقة العادلة، غير آبهٍ أكان المقابل متعة اللحظة التالية أم إكليل الشهادة، وغير مكترثٍ أكانت المكافأة في هذه الحياة أم في الآخرة.
