المعرفة كانت دائمًا مهمّة بالطبع. فالمصريون القدماء لم يرفعوا حجارة الأهرامات معتمدين على تعاويذ آلهتهم، ولم تكن مياه قنوات الري في حضارة وادي السند العظيمة تجري وفق قوانين الجهل. لقد كانت المعرفة دائمًا قوةً وثروة.
