المجتمع الذي تقوم مبادئه على التملّك والربح والمِلكيّة يُنتج طابعًا اجتماعيًّا يتمحور حول الحيازة، وما إن يترسّخ هذا النمط السائد حتى لا يرغب أحد في أن يكون غريبًا، بل ولا منبوذًا؛ ولتفادي هذا الخطر يتكيّف الجميع مع الأغلبية، وهي لا تجمعها سوى عداوتها المتبادلة.
