لأننا أحرار، لا يسعنا أن نكون غير مبالين بمصير الحرية في أي مكان آخر. فحسّنا الأخلاقي يملي تفضيلاً واضحاً لتلك المجتمعات التي تشاركنا احترامًا راسخًا لحقوق الإنسان الفردية. نحن لا نسعى إلى الترهيب، لكنّ الواضح أن عالماً يستطيع فيه الآخرون الهيمنة دون عقاب سيكون معادياً للإنسانية ومهدِّداً لرفاه الناس جميعاً.
