في بعض المراكز النائية في الداخل، تشعر بالوحشية، الوحشية المطلقة، وقد أطبقت عليه من كل جانب، بكل تلك الحياة الغامضة للبرية التي تضطرب في الغابة، وفي الأدغال، وفي قلوب الرجال المتوحشين. ولا يوجد تلقين يُدخلك في تلك الأسرار. عليه أن يعيش وسط ما لا يُدرك، وهذا مقيت. ولها أيضًا سحرٌ يعمل فيه، سحرُ القبح، أتعرف؟ تخيّل الندم المتنامي، والتوق إلى الهرب، والاشمئزاز العاجز، ثم الاستسلام، والكراهية.
