الصحيفة التي تعرقل القانون بذريعة تافهة، طمعًا في المال، عدوٌّ خطير للصالح العام. أما تلك القوة المرعبة، أي الرأي العام في أمة ما، فتصنعها في أمريكا جماعةٌ من البسطاء الجهلة المعتدّين بأنفسهم، ممّن فشلوا في الحفر وصناعة الأحذية، فانتهى بهم المطاف إلى الصحافة في طريقهم إلى دار الفقراء.
