حين فتحتُ عينيّ لم أرَ سوى بركة السماء الليلية، إذ كنتُ مستلقيًا على ظهري وذراعايممدودتان، وجهًا لوجه مع ذلك المفقس المليء بالنجوم. وإذ كنتُ نصف مستيقظ، ولم أدرك بعدُ أن تلك الأعماق سماء، ولا سقف بيني وبينها، ولا أغصان تحجبها، ولا جذر أتشبّث به، انتابني دوارٌ، وشعرتُ كأنني قُذفتُ إلى الأمام وهويتُ إلى أسفل كغطّاسٍ يغوص.
