ما الشاعر؟ إنه إنسانٌ يتحدث إلى الناس: إنسانٌ، هذا صحيح، وهبه الله إحساسًا أكثر حيويةً، وحماسةً ورقّةً أكبر، ومعرفةً أعمق بطبيعة الإنسان، ونفسًا أشمل مما يُظنّ أنه شائعٌ بين البشر؛ إنسانٌ يسرّه ما في نفسه من أهواء وإرادات، ويبتهج أكثر من سواه بروح الحياة التي فيه، يلذّ له أن يتأمّل إرادات وأهواءً مماثلة تتجلى في أحداث الكون، ويدفعه طبعه إلى أن يخلقها حيث لا يجدها.
