إن التسامح المطلق يؤدي حتماً إلى زوال التسامح. فإذا بسطنا التسامح المطلق حتى لمن هم متعصبون، ولم نكن مستعدين للدفاع عن مجتمع متسامح، فسيُدمَّر المتسامحون، ويُدمَّر معهم التسامح. لذلك ينبغي أن نطالب، باسم التسامح، بحق عدم التسامح مع المتعصبين.
