كان العلماءُ من فرانklin إلى مورس مفكّرين واضحين، ولم ينتجوا نظريات خاطئة. أما علماء اليوم فيفكّرون بعمق لا بوضوح. ولكي تفكّر بوضوح يجب أن تكون عاقلًا، أما التفكير العميق فقد يجتمع مع الجنون التام. لقد استعاض علماء اليوم بالرياضيات عن التجارب، فيتيهون في معادلة تلو معادلة، ثم يبنون في النهاية صرحًا لا صلة له بالواقع.
