نعلمُ نظريًّا أنّ الأرضَ تدور، لكنّنا في الواقع لا نلحظ ذلك؛ فالأرضُ التي نمشي عليها لا تبدو متحرّكة، فنعيشُ في سلام. هكذا هو الحال مع الزمن في حياتنا. ولكي يجعل الروائيّون مرورَه محسوسًا، عليهم أن يُعبِروا بقرّائهم عشرَ سنوات، وعشرين، وثلاثين، في دقيقتين.
