نيويورك مكانُ التقاءٍ لكلّ الأجناس في العالم، غير أنّ الصينيّين والأرمن والروس والألمان يظلّون غرباء فيها. وكذلك الجميع ما عدا السود. ولا شكّ في أنّ السود يمارسون تأثيرًا كبيرًا في أمريكا الشمالية، وهم، مهما قال قائل، أرقّ العناصر في ذلك العالم وأكثرها روحانية.
